PROF LATICA HONDA-ROSENBERG


She can be counted among the first representatives of the generation of young violinists who have established themselves in the concert world. Winning the silver medal at the Tchaikovsky competition in Moscow in 1998 paved the young violinist’s path towards an international career. At the time, the professional magazine ‘The Strad’ commented: “Her assurance and strength of will immediately brought Heifetz to mind. Her musical idiom and her playing are eloquent, expressive, sensitive and variegated, or in short: wonderful, uplifting.” Her students are frequent winners of international competitions.

PROF WOLFRAM CHRIST

He is respected long-time first principal viola with the Berlin Philharmonic, principal viola of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra and Professor at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg. He has become highly regarded as a conductor epitomising sincerity and musical integrity and is praised for his exhilarating and sensitive interpretations.
Wolfram Christ has worked with orchestras on all continents.

PROF JENS-PETER MAINTZ

Maintz enjoys an outstanding reputation as a versatile soloist, highly sought-after chamber musician and committed cello teacher. Originally from Hamburg, he studied with David Geringas and took part in masterclasses with other great cellists such as Heinrich Schiff, Boris Pergamenschikow, Frans Helmerson and Siegfried Palm. In 1994 he won first prize in the ARD international Music Competition, which had not been awarded to a cellist for 17 years.

PROF ALEKSANDAR MADŽAR

He has won prizes in Geneva, Leeds, the ‘Busoni’ and ‘Umberto Micheli’ competitions and gave his debut with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and Ivan Fischer in 1990. He has since then been performing regularly all over Europe, enjoying a rich and varied career in recital, concertos (with André Previn, Marcello Viotti, Paavo Järvi, Andris Nelsons) and chamber music, occasionally also touring North and South America, South Africa and the Far East and Australia.

PROF EMANUEL ABBÜHL

He was principal oboist with the Basel Symphony Orchestra, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and from 2006 to 2015 held the same position with the London Symphony Orchestra under Sir C. Davis, B. Haitink and V. Gergiev. 
Since 2005, he has held the post of professor at the University of Music and Arts in Mannheim and the Academy of Music in Basel and is an honorary member of the Royal Academy of Music in London.

PROF FELIX RENGGLI

Born in Basel, Felix Renggli studied flute with Gerhard Hildenbrand, Aurèle Nicolet and Peter-Lukas Graf. After his studies at the Music Academy Basel he was subsequently engaged as first flute with various orchestras such as the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra, the St. Gallen Symphony Orchestra, the Orquesta Gulbenkian Lisbon, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and Camerata Bern. Renggli has won prizes at national and international competitions and frequently gives master classes in Europe, South America, Japan, China and Australia.

PROF FRANÇOIS BENDA

Born in Brazil, François Benda comes from a long line of professional musicians. He completed his studies in Graz and Geneva (clarinet, composition, conducting) and gave his solo debut in 1988 at Zurich’s Tonhalle and at the Victoria Hall in Geneva. The Neue Zürcher Zeitung (NZZ) published the following review: “His playing moved with authority between just barely perceptible pianissimi and dramatic, nearly ecstatic crescendi and was brilliant at every moment.” Today François Benda performs at all the important music venues (Berliner Philharmonie, Wiener Musikverein, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Wigmore Hall London, Herkulessaal München, Kölner Philharmonie, Tonhalle Zürich) and appears as a clarinet soloist and conductor.

PROF ECKART HÜBNER

completed his bassoon studies in Hannover under Prof. Klaus Thunemann and later on, his conducting studies at the Musikhochschule in Leipzig under Prof. Rohde. After engagements as principal bassoonist with the Philharmonischen Orchester Dortmund and the Badischen Staatskapelle, Prof. Hübner joined the Sinfonieorchester des SWR as their principal bassoonist in 1990. He currently teaches at the Universität der Künste in Berlin. Eckart Hübner is a member of the Albert Schweitzer Woodwind Quintet which was a prize winner of the ARD music competition in 1985. The numerous recordings of this ensemble have received international critical acclaim. The complete recordings of the Anton Reicha woodwind quintets were awarded the German disc of the year title in 1989.

PROF MATTHIAS HÖFS

He received his musical education from Professor Peter Kallensee at the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre, and from Professor Konradin Groth at the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. When just 18 years of age, he was engaged as solo trumpeter at the Philharmonic State Orchestra in Hamburg, where he enjoyed the fascinating world of opera for 16 years. At the same time, Höfs became a member of the German Brass ensemble, with whom he continues to achieve worldwide success. Since their first joint concert in 1985, he has written tailored arrangements for himself and his colleagues which span more than one genre and continue to inspire the world of brass.

PROF RADOVAN VLATKOVIĆ

One of the leading instrumentalists of his generation, Radovan Vlatković has travelled the globe performing extensively as a soloist and popularising the horn as a recording artist and teacher. Radovan Vlatković is the recipient of many first prizes in national and international competitions, including the Premio Ancona in 1979 and the ARD Competition in Munich in 1983 – the first to be awarded to a horn player for fourteen years. This led to numerous invitations to music festivals throughout Europe including Salzburg, Vienna, Edinburgh and Dubrovnik to name but a few, the Americas, Australia, Israel, Korea as well as regular appearances in Japan.

PROF JÖRGEN VAN RIJEN

Principal trombonist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Jörgen van Rijen is also much in demand as a soloist with a special commitment to promoting his instrument, developing new repertoire for the trombone and bringing the existing repertoire to a broader audience. He is a specialist on both the modern and baroque trombone. He has performed as a soloist in most European countries, as well as the United States, Canada, Japan, China, Korea, Russia, Singapore and Australia. In coming seasons Jorgen will appear as a soloist with orchestras such as the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonic Antwerp, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Suisse Romande and the Orchestra of the Staatstheater Cottbus.
